Designing HTML Email Templates For Transactional Emails
The great thing about APIs is that they come together as building blocks for all sorts of applications. You don’t have to reinvent the wheel to add new features, just integrate an API and save yourself some time. At Mailgun, we continuously improve our APIs so devs can add email to the list of things their app can do.
Of course there are plenty of people who claim email is dead. That’s a different post altogether, but we like to point out the ways companies are using email in tandem with other forms of effective communication. That’s why we got excited when OneSignal
integrated our email API into their existing platform. This means you can get reliable email delivery using the same dashboard and SDK you’ve been using for push notifications!
If you aren’t comfortable sending email without a front end UI (or you have marketers on your team who aren’t), you now have another option that plays nicely with Mailgun. With OneSignal’s Mailgun integration, you can create marketing emails using responsive email templates and schedule your emails to send when you need them to.
Their dashboard offers a built-in template editor that makes sure your messages render the way they’re supposed to on different email clients. The WYSIWYG editor lets you modify templates directly without editing code every time you have an update.
Another feature we like – you can send personalized emails using tags and dynamic content. Here’s an example of an email template using dynamic content tags:
This means you can customize each message on a per-message and per-user basis, referencing the template ID if you decide to send email from your code.
Getting started with OneSignal email messaging requires an existing Mailgun account. Once you’ve got that, you can follow this step-by-step guide on how to set up email in OneSignal and configure your email settings.
Happy sending!
